9/28-29-30/07 - The 14th edition of the Southern Bracket Racing Associations finals is in the books and for the second year in a row, the hometown track produced a $6000 winner when the three=day weekend came to a close just before dark Sunday night.

The father-son team of Clyde and Jeff Boyd had won the award for having the best appearing open wheeled entry earlier on Sunday morning.


Then when the competition was reduced to just two super pro cars, the Boyds, who live just up the road from the track, felt the tension rise when the opposing entry from Colonial Beach received lane choice since he was t he quicker car.

John Myars of Glen Burnie , Md. had to wait as the Boyd dragster left its spot on the starting line with an .0045 reaction time.

Myars, also in a dragster, wasnt as quick and left on an .020. When it was over the win light came on for the hometown entry and the clocks stopped at 4.987 at 139.358 mph.Myars ran a 4.747 on a 4.74 dial in at a speed of 143 mph. His payout from the tower was $2000.

Bobby Hash, running for Elk Creek went down in the semifinal round in an entry from Independence . Chris Campbell from Staunton and Steve McDaniel from Bealeton were the quarterfinalists.
Round money went to Ray Eller of Galax, Earl Candle of Front Royal, Tom Lillend of Orange and Tracy Kilby of Jefferson , N.C.
Old
Dominion drivers won more rounds and won the track championship.
Eastside finished fourth.
Wendell Denny, an Old Dominion entry, drove an immaculate Chevy Nova to the $4000 Footbrake championship, running a MoPar from Colonial Beach driven by Chris Mader.

Denny left on an .034 the final pass and tripped the lights at 115 mph in 5.72 seconds on a 5.70 dial in. Denny lives in Manasas.

Mader, from Manequin, lost with a 6.547 on a 6.53 at 105 mph.
Jay Woodward of Locust Grove was the Footbrake semi and the quarterfinalists were Mark McGann from Afton , running for Eastside, Brian German of Culpeper and Sean English.

Round money went to Steve McAllister, Brandon Keys and Robbie Hewitt, all E/S entries, and Roy Douglas of Mt. Hope , W.Va. and Wayne Stone of Long Island .

Brieanne Hash, a 13-year-old from Elk Creek, won a $200 savings bond, a huge trophy and a gold card after winning the 2007 junior dragster championship.

The Hash entry ran an 8.09 on an 8.06 the final pass when Natalie McDaniel of Bealeton, running for Old Dominion, red lighted.

Randy Corbett drove a Suzuki GSXR 1100to a $1250 win in motorcycle action when the Old Dominion entry of Mike Herman from Fredericksburg red lighted.
Corbett, from Mouth of Wilson, left on an .04 and ran a 6.49 at 105 mph.

Henry Butler of Rixeyville, who wrecked, was checked out of the Waynesboro Rescue Squad, then actually got back on the bike went out of competition for good in the semi round.
Steve Murry of Front Royal and Matt Davies of Midlothian were the bike quarter finalists and round money paid Richie Powell of Summerduct, James Phibbs of Pulaski and Eastside entry Karen Childress of Waynesboro.
Larry Bowles of Charlottesville was judged to have the best appearing full tube door car Sunday morning.
Travis Hash of Elk Creek won best appearing stock frame doorslammer and Layne Poffs Chevelle from Elk Creek won best engineered doorslammer.
Jim Shifflett from Waynesboro had the best engineered bike, Tom Pistole from Old Dominion won best engineered open wheel car, Mike Wolfe from Colonial Beach entered a 67 Camaro and won the best engineered stock frame door car. Jamie Powells Kawasaki from Natural Bridge won best appearing bike.
