Kim Dunham Nails First Motorcycle Win

5/2/2008 – After a few weeks of rainouts, Kim Dunham and all the SBRA Drag Racers returned to drag racing Friday evening at Eastside Speedway under sunny and warm skies. Dunham slowly inched her way to the final round and was undoubtedly considered the underdog as she faced Veteran bike racer Brian Childress. Childress dialed in on a 6.87 while Dunham dialed a 6.99. The difference came at the tree when Dunham shot a 00.129 light to Childress 00.3314 light. At the finish line it was Dunham scoring her first ever win with a 7.04 pass at 107.77 mph. Childress ran to quick as he broke out running a 6.78 at 112.96 mph on the 6.87 dial. David Everidge and Karen Childress were the semi finalists.

Austin Dettor took home the Jr Dragster win after Trevor Craun ran to fast in the final. Craun cut a better light showing a 0.128 advantage at the starting line. Dettor ran 47mph for the win while Craun topped out at 76mph for the runner up spot.

Lynnville resident Wayne Billhimer grabbed the Trophy Street cash after getting the win light against Grottoes driver John McCrary. A close run at the run at the other end with McCrary hitting 56.51 mph to Billhimer at a 59.47 mph. Billhimer drove a Ford Ranger to the win while McCrary drove his familiar baby blue Ford Tempo to the runner up spot.

Mark McGann of Afton cut a 00.0379 light for the win in Footbrake racing after facing Waynesboro’s Brandon Keyes in the final. Keyes ran a 7.43 at 92.15mph while McGann went 6.61 at 101.51mph. Steve Chittem and Michael Adam each got $75 for their efforts while Scottie Keyes collected $50 finalist’s money.

Unionville driver Bruce Hensley captured the Super Pro crown for this week after Wayne Tinnell ran to quick in the final round. Tinnell dialed a 4.78 for his dragster and ran a 4.77 at 146.51mph. Hensley dialed a 4.72 and hit the mark running a 4.7253 for the win at 146.59mph. Tom Somers and Larry Bowles were semi-finalists with Somers getting a $225 payday and Bowles getting $75 after the red light. Mike Showalter, Johnny Swink, Robert Martlock and Kenton Fulk all reached the quarters.

This Friday May 9th drag racing returns with a regular weekly racing schedule. Gates will open at 4pm
